Who will be the United Opposition presidential candidate in the 2027 Presidential Election in Kenya?
Probability History
Outcomes
This market will resolve to the individual who is formally and publicly announced as the **sole joint presidential candidate** of the coalition of parties currently describing themselves as the “United Opposition”, “United Alternative Government”, or any direct successor coalition clearly recognized in mainstream Kenyan media as the same unified opposition formation. Resolution will follow these rules:
1. The winning outcome is the person who is officially endorsed as the **single presidential flag bearer** of this united opposition coalition for the 2027 Kenyan presidential election, as reported by at least two major Kenyan news outlets (e.g., Nation, The Standard, Citizen TV, NTV, KBC) or published in an official party/coalition statement.
2. If the coalition adopts a formal name different from “United Opposition/United Alternative Government” but is clearly described in major media as the same opposition alliance that has pledged to present one common 2027 presidential candidate, the candidate of that alliance will be used for resolution.
3. If multiple named leaders (e.g., Kalonzo Musyoka, Rigathi Gachagua, Fred Matiang’i, Justin Muturi, Martha Karua) remain as separate presidential candidates without a single formally agreed joint flag bearer, the market will resolve to “Any Other Candidate” only if no unambiguous joint candidate is declared by the coalition by 7 days before the official close of presidential candidate registration by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
4. If more than one person is simultaneously or ambiguously claimed as the joint candidate and credible sources conflict, resolution will wait up to 14 days for clarification; the market will resolve to the person recognized as the coalition’s sole presidential nominee by a clear majority of major outlets and/or by an official coalition communiqué.
5. If the coalition collapses entirely and its parties explicitly abandon the plan to name a single united candidate, and no joint candidate is ever named before the IEBC presidential nomination deadline, the market will resolve to “Any Other Candidate”.
6. The market concerns **only** who becomes the joint flag bearer, not who wins the national election or any party primary or internal poll. If there is still substantial ambiguity after the above steps, the platform may seek additional clarifying reporting from Kenyan mainstream media and IEBC-related candidate lists before making a good-faith final resolution.

About this Market
This market predicts who will ultimately be named as the single presidential flag bearer of the parties currently styling themselves as the **United Opposition** for Kenya’s 2027 presidential election. United Opposition leaders have publicly committed to fielding one joint candidate against President William Ruto and indicated that the announcement may come relatively late, echoing the 2002 ‘Kibaki moment’.
